ALE Leadership Elections

October 2024 Elections

ALE is guided by a 9-member Executive Board (EB), made up of Council staffers. Eight of the nine EB members are directly elected by our membership to serve a two-year term. The current term ends on Oct 31st, 2024. The 9th EB member, the Stewards’ Representative, is elected directly by the Stewards. Read more in ALE's Constitution: https://bit.ly/ALEconstitution.

We strongly encourage union members to consider running for 1 of the 8 open positions in ALE leadership. Those positions are ALE President, Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Equity Officer, and 3 Trustees.

ALE members are also needed to join the Election Committee, which will work to ensure that the Fall 2024 elections are fair, efficient and accessible. Please contact nyccouncilunion@gmail.com with any questions!

2023 Elections

Date: September 13th - 15th. See election procedures here. Dues paying members voted for:

ALE Recording Secretary, 1 of the 9 members of the Exec Board

The current Executive Board was elected in October, 2022 and is serving a two-year term. However, after the Board's Recording Secretary left the Council, a special election was required to fill the remainder of their term (until October 31, 2024).

Candidates:
Ryan Hickey
Whitney Mulzac
Seth Urbinder

Four Members (2 full & 2 alternates) of ALE's Bargaining Committee (BC)
The BC represents all ALE members as we negotiate our first contract with management. Under ALE’s Constitution and the rules established by the Executive Board, the Bargaining Committee has 15 members and 3 alternates. As several BC members have left the Council in the last year, an election was necessary to fill the open seats.

Candidates:
Dom Alexandre
Malek Al-Shammary
Brandon Jordan
Whitney Mulzac
Emmet Teran

On September 16, 2023 ALE's Election Committee certified the results & announced the winners. See detailed voting results here.

Executive Board Recording Secretary: Whitney Mulzac

Bargaining Committee
1st: Brandon Jordan (tied)
1st: Whitney Mulzac (tied)
3rd: Emmet Teran
4th: Malek Al-Shammary
5th: Dom Alexandre

Because Bargaining Committee member Michael Corbett announced his resignation from the Committee during the election (he is leaving the Council), there were 5 open seats on the BC. Thus, all 5 candidates will serve.

Newly Elected Full BC Members
Brandon Jordan
Whitney Mulzac
Emmet Teran

Newly Elected Alternate BC Members
Malek Al-Shammary
Dom Alexandre
